I knew I forgot to blog about something. I watched Oprah’s Big Give for the first time two nights ago. The season was already down to the final four contestants. The challenge for the episode was to fulfil the dying wish of two persons. One was a cancer patient with a dream to perform on the piano at Carnegie Hall. The other was terminally ill and was worried about the future of his family.
I really enjoyed the show because it was similar to The Apprentice (as challenging) but what they did changed the lives of people. The contestants went beyond the 2nd mile to help the two. For the first case, they got Natalie Cole to sing “Unforgettable” as a surprise item. As for the second, not only did they clear the housing loan for the family, they managed to start an education fund for the kids plus buy a dream pick-up truck for the dying dad.
Of course, the other reason why I liked the show was because Jamie Oliver is one of the judges.

What a spectacular show the world got during the Beijing Olympics. Regardless of whatever reports I’ve heard about some fake portions yadda yadda yadda, one person deserves all the praise.
Zhang Yimou, the mastermind behind the whole show.
I’m glad that there was so much culture in the show and I especially loved how the silk road was portrayed during the opening. The closing was great too, especially the way those guys in the red & white suits skillfully formed the Olympics logo.

Finally! A hot macho Hollywood actor who isn’t younger than me and isn’t old enough to be my grandfather!
Channing Tatum. Born on 26 April 1980.
I watched a rerun of She’s the Man which is probably the American version of the Japanese series, Hana Kimi. The storylines are different but the basic idea is the same. Girl disguises as guy, studies in an all-boys boarding school, ends up falling in love with her roomie.
OK back to Channing Tatum. His character is Duke Orsino, a sensitive guy with a six-pack and enough skills in football to make his rival cry. I decided to google Channing and read his biography.
During the ninth grade, he was sent to a military school, where he played on the football team. Tatum won a football scholarship to Glenville State College in West Virginia, although he soon lost interest in the sport and turned down the scholarship, citing his dislike of the demands of playing football.
His latest upcoming movie is Stop-Loss. I missed Step Up and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints… I think it’s time to look for Channing movies… Well, let’s see if he makes it to the A-list. Futhermore, Channing can dance and he has a colourful modelling portfolio. No reason why he can’t make it big in Hollywood.

Plans change so easily when you’re in KL. Yesterday, I had planned to go to check out my new home and see what’s what… but I detoured because Amelia called.
So there we were… smack in the middle of the weekend crowd, in The Gardens (Midvalley)… Sharon was late but she made it. I was so glad the KTM Komuter stops at Midvalley. Those days I remember walking from Seputeh station just to go there. Driving is a bad option on weekends. You’ll be spinning around the carpark for half-an-hour or more looking for an empty bay.
We had lunch at Pastis. Had the most delicious pesto (vegetables-only-spagghetti). It was drowned in mint sauce and would have been perfect if there was a bit of lamb in it. However I also had the most disastrous Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows. The drink tasted like the thick sedimented bottom layer of a Hot Milo. Bleccchh! Nandos serves better hot choco but they don’t have marshmallows.
The main reason why Amelia had dragged us there was because she had an important announcement. She might be going abroad. Well, if she really does, I believe it’ll be a great career move for her! Kudos!
By the way, in order to redeem my poor taste buds… I headed straight to get the large sized Aunty Anne’s lemonade. As usual it didn’t disappoint me. Next time you’re thirsty, try it.
Sunday came and it was back to SIBKL. Can really feel the weight of God’s glory and the sweeping touch of the Holy Spirit throughout the worship. Quite reminiscent of the worship style in Brisbane City Church. The lesson of the day was “Do not call unclean what I have made clean.” It was fascinating because that’s what I’ve been telling myself when I look into the eyes of all the people roaming the streets near my office.
I must have been so tired because I fell into a deep sleep back in the hotel. The Devil wears Prada was on TV. Decided to watch it because the last two times it was on TV, I never got to finish the movie.
I was so fascinated by the high life depicted by Meryl Streep. She is a wonderful actress. And wowz… then I heard it… “…booked at Pastis.”
Oh… hey that’s where I ate. I’m sure she didn’t order hot chocolate with marshmallows.

If you’re looking for elegant movies, I chanced upon two yesterday.
At First Sight was a beautiful movie about blind man-meets-girl and surgically regains sight for a short period of time. I thought that Mira Sorvino looked extremely cute and that this was probably Val Kilmer’s best movie.
The History Boys was even better. If you love the English language, this is the movie for you. I was so fascinated by the script. The plot centers around a bunch of boys who are preparing for their Oxbridge entrance exams. The boys owe their success to the efforts of two teachers, the dedicated, methodical Mrs. Lintott (Frances de la Tour) and the flamboyant, romantic Hector (Richard Griffiths), who instills his seemingly unfocused lessons in French and literature with a sense of antic fun. And may I add… I LOVED THE ENDING!
