It’s that time of the year again… when the malls, hotels and restaurants deck their halls to put customers in the mood for some Christmas romance… gotta admit that boughs of holly is rather effective in triggering the shopping craze among Asians, if only everything could go on more discount…
Came across a friend’s status in fb yesterday… something about resolutions… and today my pastor sent out an e-mail to reflect on the past year…
In retrospect, I think 2009 has been a pretty good year, despite my hectic schedule. Being back in KL for more than a year now, I’ve managed to spend time with my in-laws, schoolmates and friends of old. This year, my father fell sick and it was a challenging time for everyone. For me, personnally, I had to maintain my balance when juggling work, studies and trips home to Penang. I couldn’t do much for my dad except to support him in prayer and call him up occasionally, as I worked or had classes on weekends too. The Lord has indeed been faithful in answering the prayers of my family and friends. I’m so thankful that my father is back home and has the pleasure to do many things now by himself, that we initially thought, the stroke might have robbed him of.
Other than that, in terms of church life, I think getting used to a new setting is always a bit of a confusing phase for me… I normally try to do my bid to serve but it does take some time to find that shape where I fit in. Fortunately, church itself is new as it opened only in March this year, so everyone is trying to fit in together. Not been able to attend all services and meetings as my hectic schedule was in the way, but I know things will be more sane next year when I finally graduate.
On the home front, the Lord has indeed been whipping up His plans beautifully in His time. Things are progressing in order and we have a baby on the way… It’s really nice to know we’ll be having another family member soon… Growing families are opportunities to sow joy in the home.
So having said all that, what are my resolutions? Simply to enjoy what comes my way in 2010, take the ride and remember that whatever lands in my lap, I shall do it, and do it well unto the Lord.
Dunno why I keep singing this song today! Though I changed the lyrics to “If you are what you say you are, A dinosaur, Then show some fear, The Ice Age’s here..”
If you are what you say you are
A superstar
Then have no fear
The camera’s here
and the microphones and they wanna know
Oh oh oh oh
Yea, uh
A fresh cool young Lu
Trying to cash his microphone check 2, 1, 2
Want to believe my own hype but it’s too untrue
The world brought me to my knees
What have you brung you?
Did you improve on the design?
Did you do something new?
Well your name ain’t on the guest list
Who brung you? You
The more famous person, you come through
And the sexy lady next to you
You come too
And then it hit me
Standing outside of heaven waiting for God to come and get me
I’m too uncouth
Unschooled to the rules
And too gum shoe
Too much of a newcomer
And too uncool
Like Shadow and Lavelle
I battle with it well
Though I need a holiday like lady who sung blue
Go back what ever you did you undo
Heavy is heaven
The devil on me two tonnes too
And you better wear your shades
The spotlights here can burn holes through the stage
Down through the basement
Past the Indian graves
Where the dinosaurs laid
And out through China
Nearly misses air liners
Magnified times five
This is pointed at the rhymer
Ricochets off the moon and sets the forest ablaze
Now that’s important to say
Cuz even with all of that
Most of us don’t want it to fade
We want it to braid
Meaning we want it to grow
Meaning we want it to stay
Like the governor called
And they told him to wait
Un-strap him from the chair
And put him back in his cage
The audience ain’t fazed
And they ain’t gon’ clap and they ain’t gon’ praise
They want everything back that they paid
Cuz they been waiting since ten to see the lights get dim
If you are what you say you are
a superstar
then have no fear
the crowd is here
and the lights are on and they want a show
oh oh oh oh yeah
So chauffeur chauffeur come and take me away
Cuz I been standing in this line
For like five whole days
Me and security ain’t getting along
And when I got to the front they told me all of the tickets were gone
So just take me home where the mood is mellow
And the roses are grown
M&M’s are yellow
And the light bulbs around my mirror don’t flicker
Everybody gets a nice autograph picture
One for you and one for your sister
Who had to work tonight but is an avid listener
Every song’s a favorite song
And mics don’t feed back
All the reviewers say you need to go and see that
And everybody claps cuz everybody is pleased
Then they all take the stage and start performing for me
Like ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha
You’re kidding right? You can’t remember when’s the last time you bought something and felt good about it?
Let me tell you about the month of October.
I have been buying, buying, buying and plan to buy some more… for what? for who? for baby of course…
Carrying a child has introduced me to a different playing field, one which was not relevant before. I have so many new “products” to discover. They have innovative products of all kinds… it’s like learning a new science. I’m too lazy to list down the number of things and terminologies that I’ve learnt… listing them as they come to mind…
1. Science of Baby bottles: BPA-free, variable flow, angled
2. Science of Baby clothes sizes: ranging from newborn, 3-6 mths, 6-12 months
3. Science of Baby accessories: baby sleeping bag, eco-diapers
4. Science of Baby toys: baby gym
5. Science of Baby safety: gap between baby cot bars, weight limits for strollers/car seats etc
And much more… which I can’t think of at the moment… but I just keep going ooh and wow and aah whenever I go shopping for baby stuff… it’s ridiculously fun to spend all your money on baby!
I haven’t had the time to explore the following:
1. Science of Baby food
2. Science of Baby language and development
3. Science of Baby photography
4. Science of Baby jealousy (ok, too early for that)
5. Science of Baby habits
6. Science of Chinese herbs
More importantly, I have learnt how to enjoy my pregnancy and just be playful with baby… tap here tap there, and soon the fella will kick here and kick there… By the way, chickens are definitely fed with hormones and stimulants – makes my baby superhyper whenever I consume chicken meat.
Had chicken chop for lunch today, and baby is kicking, kicking, kicking!
With all this hype about the LRT extension in KL, I suddenly recalled that I had a dream related to a train, not too long ago… Maybe just last month…
It was weird… The train was a primitive looking wagon on tracks with maybe 10 “coaches”, each fitting 4 persons… Kinda like a coal mine train, but with openings for doors… I mean you don’t need doors for trains carrying coal right…
Ya, so it was an open air ride… from where to where? From Bukit Jalil stadium, which was located (in my dream) in Bukit Indah (that’s like in JB), and had tracks which crossed a lake (just like the KTM crossing the Bukit Merah lake)…
So Bukit Jalil-Indah-Merah was the last stop to nowhere, (you get the impression you’re in some tundra in Russia when you alight) all the way to Pasir Gudang…
Now, on this train, it was a magical ride… You kinda feel like you’re in some theme park, not a haunted house tho… kinda like genting, minus the many children… I remembered this next part very clearly.
I had my MGS school friends visiting… some of them had been overseas for some time, and it was Christmas so they were back in Malaysia… Since they flew to Singapore, they decided to visit me in Bukit Jalil (which in my dream was in JB)… am i confusing u yet?
Next, I dreamt that we were hanging out in my log cabin, in Megah Ria (which was surrounded by thin forests like in Chinchilla… Then I heard the train coming so we rushed to board it… The train slowed down automatically as if it knew people were trying to board it…
Then some idiot must have forgotten to change the tracks… cos the train went the wrong direction, through a Concentration Camp (which in my dream was the communist part of JB)… The camp had been abandoned for 50 over years since Malaysia’s independence and was now a haunt for squirrels and rabbits… As we passed the camp, it was kinda eery to see the barb-wired fence and army tanks and butcher stalls – which someone in the train said were actually torture chambers…
Soon the train was back on track and we were passing Taman Rinting…
When we got to Pasir Gudang, the train went directly into a beautiful area (a bit like Danga Bay concept but more beautiful) and straight into a shopping mall – called Perling Garden… see I got my geography all mixed up… I recall there was a nice round atrium there and snowmen/christmas trees on display… The train took one circle around the christmas display… at this point, my friends wanted to go shopping… I remember they went to Body Shop while I wandered into some messy shop, like a store room which sold things like Living Cabin… (actually last year I was in such a shop hunting for family day gifts in KL)
After our little shopping trip, it was time for my friends to go to the airport and fly home… So we boarded the train and went all the way to the Bukit Jalil ‘airport’…
And the dream ended.
How poetic.
As I gazed at the rice fields… it occured to me that I don’t know whether rice fields are still full of water at harvest time.
Should ask the locals the same question 10 times, to get the correct answer… it’s no shame, after all… the point is to get the correct answer… especially when you have a report to write.
How did Arniel scan his stuff… why aren’t my scans as clear?
Haha… two ladies spoke to me, first in Viet then in Thai yesterday evening… asked if I was from the seafood industry. Found out one is Vietnamese and one is Thai… they were thrilled that I was from Malaysia, even more thrilled I wasn’t their competitor.
It doesn’t feel like Friday, altho it is and it doesn’t feel like I’ve been away from KL for 5 days. How fast time flies!
How am I gonna get my assignment done when I have no experience in stock market speculation?
To buy or not to buy, more Dutch Lady 100% Sua Nguyen Chat…
I’m full… I’m usually not even hungry in Vietnam unlike the days in Kogan Creek… but I suddenly peak in hunger when it’s like 10 minutes to meal time… cos food is so delish here.
Wonder if it’ll rain this evening?
Hmm…. do I know Andreas B.? I think it’s the same guy from the Kogan Creek project…
How come they barbecue everything except seafood over here? What a pity!
