It’s that time of the year again… when the malls, hotels and restaurants deck their halls to put customers in the mood for some Christmas romance… gotta admit that boughs of holly is rather effective in triggering the shopping craze among Asians, if only everything could go on more discount…
Came across a friend’s status in fb yesterday… something about resolutions… and today my pastor sent out an e-mail to reflect on the past year…
In retrospect, I think 2009 has been a pretty good year, despite my hectic schedule. Being back in KL for more than a year now, I’ve managed to spend time with my in-laws, schoolmates and friends of old. This year, my father fell sick and it was a challenging time for everyone. For me, personnally, I had to maintain my balance when juggling work, studies and trips home to Penang. I couldn’t do much for my dad except to support him in prayer and call him up occasionally, as I worked or had classes on weekends too. The Lord has indeed been faithful in answering the prayers of my family and friends. I’m so thankful that my father is back home and has the pleasure to do many things now by himself, that we initially thought, the stroke might have robbed him of.
Other than that, in terms of church life, I think getting used to a new setting is always a bit of a confusing phase for me… I normally try to do my bid to serve but it does take some time to find that shape where I fit in. Fortunately, church itself is new as it opened only in March this year, so everyone is trying to fit in together. Not been able to attend all services and meetings as my hectic schedule was in the way, but I know things will be more sane next year when I finally graduate.
On the home front, the Lord has indeed been whipping up His plans beautifully in His time. Things are progressing in order and we have a baby on the way… It’s really nice to know we’ll be having another family member soon… Growing families are opportunities to sow joy in the home.
So having said all that, what are my resolutions? Simply to enjoy what comes my way in 2010, take the ride and remember that whatever lands in my lap, I shall do it, and do it well unto the Lord.
Hey did anyone realise that half the year is gone already? Has anyone followed up on their New Year resolutions successfully?
Let me know!
As for me, I can’t remember what resolutions I made! I know a blog is supposed to be like an online journal… ok so I’ll take a peek…
Oh wow! Benny and I spent New Year’s with my fave cousin, Kim and her parents…at Chilli’s… totally forgotten that one. And I actually didn’t blog for one week before that. Hey, I actually think I didn’t make any resolutions this year!
I think I know why! I probably had too many assignments to do… now what subjects were I doing at the time? Ah… Organisational Behaviour… yup that one was assignment-heavy.
Pooh pooh… No resolutions for this year? I didn’t do justice to myself. So let’s make some now.
- Before Christmas, I’d like to try out a Krispy Kreme donut together with some friends (as opposed to, I need to lose some weight)
- Finish that packet of oats which has been sitting on my desk for a while now
- I shall try to do more virtual work, be more paperless! Yet be more organised!
- Fully visualise and plan the interior for my new house
- Accomplish at least one important thing every day
- Challenge myself to go for at least one adrenaline-rush outdoor event
Now I’m scared!

Hello world, happy new year!
Spent the first half of the day snoozing… I could hear Benny busily unpacking his stuff somewhere in the house but I refused to wake up until the phone rang. I really do hate callers who have no idea what time of day it is… well it was almost noon! hehe…
It was Paris Optical – my new glasses were ready for collection. How timely! We had a dinner appointment with my cousin and the optical shop was just a stone’s throw from her place. Cool!
After a quick lunch, I went to get my glasses and woah! The whole world looked so clear suddenly… After all, I’d been looking through scratched lenses for the past 2-3 years. When I stared at my reflection in the mirror, the guy asked if something was wrong. Indeed, something was very wrong. Since when did my face have so many blemishes! Aargh, the rewards of sight!
Dinner was great. We waited for almost an hour (according to my uncle), for the nachos, fajitas, eggrolls, chicken and fish. It was worth the wait for the food was just yummy. Well, later at night, I managed to buy the thank you card which had been on my mind for sometime. It’s for one of our directors because he approved the YTL Scholars luncheon but can’t make it there himself.
Vell, vell, vell… have a HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! May you seek the Lord and find Him this year…
Hey everyone, we are two weeks into the new year and hopefully we’ve set our goals for the year. Things should be set in motion now and all we should do is work towards that which we’ve set upon our hearts to accomplish!
I’m kinda bummed actually. There are 2-3 things I might consider goals, but they are such half-hearted goals.
Ah but talk of resolutions may spice up life a little, so why not indulge. At the same time, let’s look at what I’ve achieved in two weeks!
- Travel – This time the destination was Koh Samui. I was so impressed by the airport (please do not fly to Surat which is the mainland, fly directly into Koh Samui airport please – the island paradise itself). Not only did the architecture impress me, the staff were friendly, and the immigration tried to conserve space on my passport by stamping on some older pages. Plus, while waiting for my flight home, there awaited me a relaxing lounge with a generous buffet spread – plus internet-ready PCs. I’m glad I made that trip. Enough about the airport. What you really should do at Koh Samui is go on a day-tour to Ang Thong Marine Park. I did my tour with Sea/Island Safari – I totally recommend them!
- Watch Heroes – I’m done with Season 1, although a bit disappointed that Isaac Mendez had to die. I felt he had the most significant superpower – the ability to draw the future. The writers of Heroes must be applauded for their imagination… Not only did Isaac paint on canvas, he produced a manga series too… My favourite character is still Hiro Nakamura – kawaii!
- Spend time with family – After my disappearance to Australia, it was time to catch up with the family. All’s well in Penang and it’s good to see new development in my island hometown. Plus, I’m glad the food is still as good and as cheap as ever.
In retrospect, 2007 was a year where a lot of people gave their lives to Jesus. There were so many testimonies and they came from people I know. What a joy!
There are many churches out there in the world who are praying for Malaysia and I want you to know that you are making a difference for us!
Come 2008, let’s reach one more for Jesus!!
What Pastor Chong Hiang shared yesterday was so true… when we evangelise, we are actually pleading with people to believe in Jesus, because this is the only way… we should be careful not to cause misunderstanding that people should think we were forcing them.
That’s right… we’re pleading because it’s so important to us that you can go to heaven too… but not just that… it’s also our earnest and sincere, heartfelt desire to see people living the rich, abundant life that Jesus can give. A life with meaning, joy and purpose.
Just as I would wish you everything good for the new year, I know deep down that the only way you will have something really good, is if you have Jesus in your life.
God bless you all and may you find a friend in Jesus!
