I clench my fists, grit my teeth, eyes almost dry, hair in my face…

Passion.

I feel it deep within.

I used to wonder in the shadows, when our moment in nation-building would come. How proud my forefathers must have felt on that glorious 31 Aug 1957. When our nation was finally free!

Was that the end of our journey in democracy, with no more part for us to play. That peace and growth, stability and security were handed down on silver platters with no more reason to doubt the ruling coalition.

No. Today my country is 50 years old and for the first time, my generation seizes the day and votes for change.

Note: Opposition parties, this is your chance to do your bid for our beloved nation. We’re not your fans… beware the voting power of Malaysians. Do well and Malaysians will give you favour. Ruling govt, don’t wallow in the mud… Pick yourselves up and regain our trust, maybe you’ll do better next time.

From the words of Klaus Meine (Scorpions)

The wind of change

Blows straight into the face of time

Like a stormwind that will ring the freedom bell

For peace of mind

Let your balalaika sing

What my guitar wants to say

Take me to the magic of the moment

On a glory night

Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams

With you and me

Take me to the magic of the moment

On a glory night

Where the children of tomorrow dream away

in the wind of change

It’s SUNDAY!

Missing the fun, fellowship and energy of my churchmates…

Been catching up with lots of friends this weekend. Lots of people I should meet up with, wish the world was smaller.

This is Learning to Breathe by Switchfoot. It was part of the soundtrack for one of the saddest movies I’d ever seen – A Walk to Remember.

Enjoy your Sunday

“Learning To Breathe”

Hello, good morning, how you do?
What makes your rising sun so new?
I could use a fresh beginning too
All of my regrets are nothing new
So this is the way that I say I need You
This is the way that I’m

Learning to breathe
I’m learning to crawl
I’m finding that You and You alone can break my fall
I’m living again, awake and alive
I’m dying to breathe in these abundant skies

Hello, good morning, how you been?
Yesterday left my head kicked in
I never, never thought that
I would fall like that
Never knew that I could hurt this bad

So this is the way I say I need You
This is the way that I say I love You
This is the way that I say I’m Yours
This is the way, this is the way

Funny… Just discovered that some of my friends on Facebook received this video from me. But… hmm… I didn’t send it out… Reminds me of someone I know very well though Hey boy, thanks for your CD.

It’s the skaterboy song by Avril Lavigne…

He was a boy, she was a girl
Can I make it anymore obvious?

He was a punk, she did ballet
What more can I say?

He wanted her, she’d never tell
secretly she wanted him as well.

But all of her friends stuck up their noses
they had a problem with his baggy clothes.

He was a skater boy, she said see ya later boy
he wasn’t good enough for her
She had a pretty face, but her head was up in space
she needed to come back down to earth.

five years from now, she sits at home
feeding the baby
she’s all alone

she turns on tv
guess who she sees
skater boy rockin’ up MTV.

she calls up her friends, they already know
and they’ve all got tickets to see his show

she tags along and stands in the crowd
looks up at the man that she turned down.

He was a skater boy, she said see ya later boy
he wasn’t good enought for her
now he’s a super star
slamin’ on his guitar
does your pritty face see what he’s worth?

sorry girl but you missed out
well tough luck that boy’s mine now

we are more than just good friends
this is how the story ends

too bad that you couldn’t see
see that man that boy could be

there is more that meets the eye
I see the soul that is inside

He’s just a boy, and i’m just a girl
can I make it anymore obvious?

we are in love, haven’t you heard
how we rock eachothers world

I’m with the skater boy, I said see ya later boy
i’ll be back stage after the show
i’ll be at a studio
singing the song we wrote
about a girl you used to know

Ok… here’s the original MTV…

I was watching the news today on Channel 7, and today’s “Flashback” was on Brisbane International Airport.

I was shocked beyond words. The airport sits on what used to be 5 km long Cribb Island, home to 400 people. Home also to the brothers we know as The Bee Gees. While they were topping the charts in the 70s, every memory of their hometown was slowly being erased.

In 1971, an order was issued by the Federal Government that Cribb Island was to be resumed to make way for the new airport. This island had be home to the community since the 1800′s. It was really interesting as the news showed old video clips of interviews with locals who were so devastated by the Government’s decision.

When the last of her people had left in 1980, works commenced to bury the entire island under 4m of sand. Today, there is no clue, no story, no trace left behind to immortalize this island. If I had missed the news today, this story would be forever lost, as I don’t think I might ever have the chance to hear it again.

Islands in the Stream – by the Bee Gees

Baby when I met you there was peace unknown
I set out to get you with a fine tooth comb
I was soft inside
There was something going on
You do something to me that I can’t explain
Hold me closer and I feel no pain
Every beat of my heart
We got something going on
Tender love is blind
It requires a dedication
All this love we feel needs no conversation
We can ride it together , ah ha
Making love with each other , ah ha

Islands in the stream
That is what we are
No one in between
How can we be wrong
Sail away with me
To another world
And we rely on each other , ah ha
From one lover to another , ah ha

I can’t live without you if the love was gone
Everything is nothing when you got no one
And you walk in the night
Slowly losing sight of the real thing
But that won’t happen to us and we got no doubt
Too deep in love and we got no way out
And the message is clear
This could be the year for the real thing
No more will you cry
Baby I will hurt you never
We start and end as one
In love forever
We can ride it together , ah ha
Making love with each other , ah ha

Islands in the stream
That is what we are
No one in between
How can we be wrong
Sail away with me
To another world
And we rely on each other , ah ha
From one lover to another , ah ha

I don’t have a job
I never liked them
I just wanna play in the sunshine

They say I was wrong
But I know better
I live my life like I’m dying

Gimme a chance
I’ll do my best to kick and scream and dance
When winter comes I’ll turn around

Take me back to the sweet times
The hot nights
Everything is gonna be alright
In the summertime
Baby, in the summertime
And even if I have to wait til next year
I don’t care
All I know is that I’ll meet you there
In the summertime
Baby, in the summertime
That is where I’ll be

I can’t complain
‘Cos I’m still breathing
There’s nobody breathing down my neck now

Gimme a go
Like an open furnace setting fire to snow
When winter comes I’ll ask the crowd

To take me back to the sweet times
The hot nights
Everything is gonna be alright
In the summertime
Baby, in the summertime
And even if I have to wait til next year
I don’t care
All I know is that I’ll meet you there
In the summertime
Baby, in the summertime
That is where I’ll be

So let me run
I’ll dream until my head weighs 16 tonnes
And when I wake sometime in June
I’ll say

Take me back to the sweet times
The hot nights
Everything is gonna be alright
In the summertime
Baby, in the summertime
And even if I have to wait til next year
I don’t care
All I know is that I’ll meet you there
In the summertime
Baby, in the summertime

Take me back to the sweet times
The hot nights
Everything is gonna be alright
In the summertime
Baby, in the summertime
And even if I have to wait til next year
I don’t care
All I know is that I’ll meet you there
In the summertime
Baby, in the summertime
Baby, in the summertime
Baby, in the summertime
That is where I’ll be

This song was introduced to me by a KL friend who’s studying in Adelaide and came to Pasir Gudang for a while. Heard it on the way to work today on the radio. Amazing, how it matches my emotions today… it’s drawing nearer to winter… it’s getting colder, and i am feeling nostalgic after that long blog about my snail mail buddies… A friend once said, if all you can talk is about the past and not the future, you’re growing old. Thirsty Merc is from Sydney.
