If you’re looking for elegant movies, I chanced upon two yesterday.

At First Sight was a beautiful movie about blind man-meets-girl and surgically regains sight for a short period of time. I thought that Mira Sorvino looked extremely cute and that this was probably Val Kilmer’s best movie.

The History Boys was even better. If you love the English language, this is the movie for you. I was so fascinated by the script. The plot centers around a bunch of boys who are preparing for their Oxbridge entrance exams. The boys owe their success to the efforts of two teachers, the dedicated, methodical Mrs. Lintott (Frances de la Tour) and the flamboyant, romantic Hector (Richard Griffiths), who instills his seemingly unfocused lessons in French and literature with a sense of antic fun. And may I add… I LOVED THE ENDING!

Seriously, after Transformers I doubted that Iron Man could even come close to winning my heart. But it did!

With a less complicated storyline and more believable plot, Ironman measures a class above Transformers in my movie A-list.

Iron Man is a Marvel superhero, just like Spidey. So it was not surprising at all (in fact it was FUN) to see Iron Man’s first suit and later his hot-rod red armour. (Remember Spidey’s first handsewn suit?). However, I thought it was a little too soon to see his nemesis in a similar suit by the first movie. After all, we only got to see a dark Spidey in the 3rd movie.

What truly fascinated me about the movie was the engineering genius that Tony Stark is. He is truly the most passionate engineer I’ve ever seen onscreen. I hope they make more movies like this. Although he struggles for a sec about his motives and conscience, he rebounds quickly to use his genius for the benefit of mankind.

Unlike X-men and even Spidey, Iron Man wastes no time to set things right. He does have his moments with Pepper Potts but it’s just brief enough so that she doesn’t turn into his love interest. Brilliant. Let’s focus on the techniques and storyline. I like it. And may I add that Robert Downey Jr is the perfect man for the role. With his suave looks and serious demeanour, he is just simply ironic.

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is the CEO of Stark Industries which produces advance weapon systems for the U.S. military. Tony lives the life as a hard drinking, rich playboy ladies man, but he is also a genius who has invented many high-tech items for the company. Tony flies to Afghanistan to demonstrate a new weapons test to the United States Air Force. Tony is captured and held hostage in a cave with Yinsen (Shaun Toub), a doctor who saves his life. Tony decides to build a suit of armor with Yinsen’s help. The suit gives Tony the strength and protection to be able to escape the terrorists. Back in America, Tony builds a better suit of armor which gives him superhuman strength with the ability to fly.

One important thing about having good friends is that you get to go to the movies to watch the stuff that matters to you… with them…

Finally got to watch L: Change the world yesterday… It’s one of those movies that would mean nothing to Benny but it happens to be the manga/anime kind which I have to watch… Simply have to, you know.

L Lawliet is the genius crime-solver who dies at the end of Death Note and I believe this sequel was due to the fan-generated-interest regarding L as a character…

Seriously, L has got to be one of the most unique characters in the manga world. His creator, Tsugumi Ohba, must have put a lot of thought in when developing the original manga. L has so much depth of character and to see him live on the big screen is rewarding.

L: Change the world explains the last 23 days of his life and captures his personality, gestures, intelligence and soul.

A must watch if you like the idea of Star Wars movie sequence. This movie is in that sort of fashion. The beginning at the end…

And Ken’ichi Matsuyama (L)… I can’t get enough of your make-up! It’s ghostlike yet not scary and not too gothic. Cool.

Wonder if any of you watched the Golden Compass? Well, the movie is set in a parallel universe where human souls dwell outside of the body in the form of animal spirits. If I had a part in the movie, this ostrich is what my soul looks like right now. Tired-worn out-with an ounce of sarcasm still left inside. Oh it has been a trying, trying, trying week at work.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

-Prayer of St Francis of Assisi

Just finished looking up prophecies in the Old Testament about Jesus, the chosen Messiah. It was like a journey through nostalgia.

Even as I ponder, it intrigues me on why Jesus’ birth, life and death had to prophesied, predicted about about 1,000 years before it came to fulfilment.

Was it because…

A. it’s always good to plan ahead, therefore that it includes informing everyone before God executed His plans?

B. nobody would believe Jesus was the Saviour of the world if there was no historic proof of his coming existence?

C. God wanted it written down in advance so that we could have a religion called Christianity which based its beliefs on the Bible?

Why? Why was prophecy so important…

Many movies talk about prophecy. The Matrix Trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings and even the recent dark-movie, The Golden Compass. Many Chinese Kung Fu movies also have tales of prophecied heroes. So have Japanese manga…

Perhaps, one could conclude in this way… God foretold his plans because:

A. God loves us, He calls us His friends and therefore, He wanted to share this message of hope, redemption and salvation to us. That sin and death was not the end. Eternal life and fellowship with God is.

B. Jesus, God’s only son, is King of Kings and Lord of Lords… prophecies in the Old Testament and prophecies by his cousin, John the Baptist, were to “Prepare the way” for the miracle birth of the long-awaited Saviour. Many religions have prophecy… but only in Christianity, have these prophecies of salvation and victory been fulfilled by one single person in the form of Jesus Christ.

C. God wants us to know that even when He created the world, He already knew that by giving us free will, we would betray ourselves, be dragged further astray by Satan and would perish eternally, suffering the punishment of hell… He already knew, and He already planned the escape for us. God wants us to know that everything is still under His control.

I put up all the prophecies relating to Jesus on the TNT blogsite… You can access it by clicking on this link.
