It’s not fun being sick at all… I’m not bed-ridden or overly feverish… But I do have a runny nose and a sore throat.
I think I was caught in a cold draft yesterday at the Amcorp Mall flea market. I was there because I was hunting for a piece of art for the living room and an oval plate for a sizeable roast chicken. Thought I saw something I liked but gave it a pass, because the nose was running so heavily it sorta clouded my senses…
Anyway, I’m back at work today and there are a few things that I need to sort out today, including the co website, monthly report and newsletter… Hmm… not a great start to a week, but I’m thankful I have a job these days…
Well, at least with Benny back in KL, I’ve got a personal chauffeur and DIY-handy in the house. Thank God I don’t do much driving these days… It’s horrible to be sick and stuck behind the wheel in a jam at the same time.
Oh, plus Benny always has tons of medicine in stock, so it was quite convenient to get all the doses I needed without having to rush to the nearest pharmacy.
OK, I think I have a headache too… who switched on the air-cond! Did I ever blog about the office air-cond? It’s neither cold nor warm at the office… It’s unpredictable. Hmph…
Dear Lord, Help me work today, need all the help I can get… Thanks for the sunshine and please let it stay sunny the whole day. Amen.

I’m officially feeling under the weather. Had a painful sorethroat for a few nights and now it has developed into a cough.
You know the Chinese say there are two types of cough. The leng sau and the juak sau, which are Hockkien for “cold cough” and “heaty cough”. From experience, I differentiate the types of cough based on the sound and feel of it.
The leng sau always follows a sore throat and is due to proximity to another coughing person (in my case, Benny was sick for a week plus). When I’m down with this type of cough, my voice sounds like I’ve been sucking in helium. My coughing sounds light, unrooted. I’m definitely down with this “cold cough”.
Whenever I’m experiencing juak sau, it is because I’m paying the consequences of eating too much heaty food (like durians) or I was subjected to dehydration (from too much outdoor activities, and lack of water intake). The cough is dry and loud, sometimes painful too.
Why this burger and fries then? Well, it’s what I feel like eating today inspite of my coughing. I’m hungry! (that means I’m not feverish!)
Today I had my favourite minced pork porridge for lunch. It’s funny how I never think of eating it unless I’m sick. And I am.
It’s definitely not the usual sinusitis symptoms of the leaky nose… I actually feel feverish and drowsy. A kind friend passed me a Clarinase tablet and I’ve been feeling a little better since.
Since I’m still in the office, I shall make full use of the remaining hours and then rush home for a good sleep.

HOT HOT HOT! ![]()
The weather’s really bad today… must have gotten a heatstroke while I was out today. We hit 34 deg C today, and eventhough I’m in the aircond comfort of my room now, I still feel hot, feverish and drowsy.
OK – I don’t think my body temp is more than 105 deg F (40 deg C) so I don’t have heatstroke.
I downed two vitamin pills today, drank lots of water and even showered three times!
There was a BBQ just now, but I must have been there for only 15 mins, before the heat got the better of me. Now I’m safe in my room again!
In fact, the internet’s been quite unstable lately. I do believe the wireless hub is overheating in this weather. Such an important piece of equipment placed in a horrid location like the camp kitchen!!
Oh anyway, be thankful under all circumstances ![]()

You learn something new everyday… Today I learnt:
- There is a connection between my two favourites – Fleetwood Mac and Santanna… Black Magic Woman was first sung by Fleetwood Mac and later adapted by Santanna.
- Glog wine (pronounced ‘glue wine’) : You can warm up red wine with herbs like cinnamon and cloves, then drink it like tea (with a bit of brown sugar) and serve with ginger cookies (reminiscent of my favourite from Ikea… but these come coated with almonds…) wow! Especially tasty in the winter. Other blends even include lemongrass, vanilla and pepper.
- Yahoo mail chat facility is much more fun than Gmail chat, and it works eventhough Yahoo! messenger is blocked.
- A warm pasta meal can cure a fever… that’s what I ate tonight for dinner.
- In Australia, some people celebrate Christmas in July to coincide with winter.
- Australia means ‘land of the south’ in Latin, and got its name from the Romans who never found the southern continent they assumed to have existed.
- There is a fantastic lady saxophonist out there by the name of Cindy Dulfer.
- A few more tricks learnt when working with the Dynavis software at work, thanks to my friend Sergio.
- To get paracetamol (known as Panadol to most Malaysians) I have to visit the Siemens paramedic first. There is no first aid box like in YTL office. Well, I had a terrible fever-headache-dizziness at work today after taking the paracetamol.
- There is yet another type of can-opener that exists in this world. And I had to ask the classic question at work today… How many engineers does it take to open a can of tuna? It took five! And tomorrow, we’ll bring some tuna just to try it out… IF we all crash landed on a deserted island with cans of tuna with that one pathetic can-opener… we’d still die of hunger because nobody knows how to open any can with it! Never seen it before!
