HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUMMY!!!

Of course, she’s not reading this… not yet… Cos she’s with me in KL. Did you know my mummy is the most loyal fan of my blog. She logs on whenever she has time (which is everyday) and sometimes tells me on the phone that she’s read this or that.

But my mummy is busy today because she’s helping me set up my new home. Benny just arrived in JB and he is tired out too. He spent the whole of yesterday drilling the walls to hang all the fixtures. At least we can nicely display the wall clock now. It was a gift from 9th aunty in Penang.

Well, can’t wait for my furniture and stuff to arrive from JB. It’ll be another day of unpacking, cleaning the house etc… Thank God my vacuum cleaner works!

Stayed with my in-laws last night. Woke up this morning to the pleasant sound of pre-dawn activity. My lai-lai was already up and about with her morning routine of spring-cleaning while my lou-yeh was busy snipping, snipping, snipping the birdfood.

I thought 6 am was early. It must be, because my brother-in-law was still sound asleep. But lo and behold, breakfast was already on the table. Lou-yeh had gone to tarpau some dimsum. He even packed a Nescafe for me.

Wow! What a morning! I thought to myself as I boarded the LRT for work. Sure is nice to wake up and find myself amidst family. Something I haven’t had in a while… Conjures up the feeling of those days when I had to wake up, get ready for school… called mom after I was back in the city. Nice to hear her voice in the cold of the morning.

Afterthought…

I love KL! So much activity in the early morning. People are so “healthy”… They are the early birds who catch the worms!

Hey everyone, we are two weeks into the new year and hopefully we’ve set our goals for the year. Things should be set in motion now and all we should do is work towards that which we’ve set upon our hearts to accomplish!

I’m kinda bummed actually. There are 2-3 things I might consider goals, but they are such half-hearted goals.

Ah but talk of resolutions may spice up life a little, so why not indulge. At the same time, let’s look at what I’ve achieved in two weeks!

  1. Travel – This time the destination was Koh Samui. I was so impressed by the airport (please do not fly to Surat which is the mainland, fly directly into Koh Samui airport please – the island paradise itself). Not only did the architecture impress me, the staff were friendly, and the immigration tried to conserve space on my passport by stamping on some older pages. Plus, while waiting for my flight home, there awaited me a relaxing lounge with a generous buffet spread – plus internet-ready PCs. I’m glad I made that trip. Enough about the airport. What you really should do at Koh Samui is go on a day-tour to Ang Thong Marine Park. I did my tour with Sea/Island Safari – I totally recommend them!
  2. Watch Heroes – I’m done with Season 1, although a bit disappointed that Isaac Mendez had to die. I felt he had the most significant superpower – the ability to draw the future. The writers of Heroes must be applauded for their imagination… Not only did Isaac paint on canvas, he produced a manga series too… My favourite character is still Hiro Nakamura – kawaii!
  3. Spend time with family – After my disappearance to Australia, it was time to catch up with the family. All’s well in Penang and it’s good to see new development in my island hometown. Plus, I’m glad the food is still as good and as cheap as ever.

Yes! I’m finally in the Christmas mood. It took me quite a while… I’ve had friends who had put up “Jingle bells”, “Ho ho ho”, “Christmas” etc on their google chat status… I’ve had friends who have started shopping for Christmas and bragged about it. Even my church in JB is all hyped up about preparing for Christmas. The ads on TV are promoting Christmas goodies.

Hey… when was I finally gonna get into the groove?

TODAY!

Just got off the phone with my mom… I was really unhappy knowing that I couldn’t celebrate Christmas in Penang because I have no more leave.

In fact, I finally dreamt of my family yesterday… bet it was out of sheer will. My parents and my three favourite aunts… All lepakking in some hotel lobby… That only meant one thing…

I invited all of them to come celebrate Christmas with me in JB… ahem… I mean Singapore… ahem… I mean Johor Jaya…

Please please please?

*dashed hopes* I really wanted to be in Penang for Christmas… this would be my first Christmas away from home…

You know… my earliest memory of Christmas was prancing around in my living room which was packed with relatives sitting around in an informal circle… My grandpa leading the carols… My grandma getting the drinks ready… And my dad with a gigantic bag of prezzies for me to distribute to my grandaunts, uncles and all the guests.

I don’t know what you think about Christmas… But Christmas really means a lot to me!

Like a mirror… with a visual of an image that could be me

Faded to grey in a background of noise

Invisible… non-existant…

Like a heater on a summer’s day

adding to the waves of suffering

Like a sharp stone carried by the wind

only to pierce the proudest brow

Like a hunter missing his prey

shooting the skies no diff’ than a lost astronaut

Like plain ol’ me, sitting in front of a bright LCD

hoping, counting… that the bitrate soars

that Scrabulous loads

devastated… such slow-ness… not seen since 1997

when i sent my first e-mail from my first notebook to my first friend

Janice

argh… life’s like that…

when it all slows down to a standstill

you recall a name… you remember a scent… you wish you were there…

then you realise just how fast you were going

so quickly time speeds up to catch you

like a poisonous snare

before you know it, it’s your birthday again…

pardon me, it was last month.

Like summer storms in Queensland

Like my favourite Jamiroquai song

Seven Days is too long my boy

Let’s just be friends

It all comes together now… to define me

A girl riding on the fastest comet she can afford

Yet gripping onto the ice… afraid… as she spins around space in orbit

Helplessly obedient to the laws of this universe

But in the end… you find it…

The answer:

No turning back, no turning back

Defined in the sands of time

The same grains that fall between two halves of the glass

An appearance of human existence in futile routine

Yet, the grains as they fall… mark seconds and minutes

Hours which you will never live in again

No turning back, no turning back

When all slows down, and it comes to a stop

Time wins the race against you yet

Run with me sister

Carry me brother

Let’s take this road together

No turning back, no turning back

Photo with my wonderful parents on Daddy’s birthday 2003… just felt that this photo captures how I feel right now…

Have I missed breakfast?
