Status Quo isn’t exactly the right word, but I can’t find a similar term with a slightly different meaning. I was just comparing my working life with my student life. You know, although people think I’ve move around a lot… considering that I was in Penang, KL, JB, Australia, JB, now KL again… The fact is, I haven’t…
Perhaps, I have, geographically… but otherwise… I was in the same school from Std 1 right up to Form 5. Then I was living on campus for four years. Then I worked at the Pasir Gudang power plant for about 6 years, and was in Kogan Creek in between for an 8-month stint (barely a year). Now I’m still with the same company, but am based in KL. So relatively, I haven’t really moved. It’s like being in Status Quo – the only changes would be the level of responsibility that has increased from my Std 1 days to now.
So what’s nice about this sort of life?
- Friends – You get to be in relationships for a longer time frame, and this has helped build long-lasting friendships for me. I still keep-in-touch with friends from various phases of my life.
- Social Impact – I get to stay in a place long enough to make an impact. Well, obviously I’m not one of those who can make an impression overnight… What kind of impact? Oh well, the kind that helps others make sense of their lives, while I make sense of mine.
- Finding Purpose – Too many changes can upset one’s sense of focus. Sure, if you have already laid out everything and the changes are within your 5-year plan… But for me, it’s important to discover my purpose wherever I’m at in life. So again, it’s time that gives me that opportunity.
So actually it can all be summed up in one word – TIME.
Time can certainly be your best friend, when you have just the right amount to accomplish something, then move on.

I like this blog. It helps me as well. I haven’t moved much either. I’ve been in Penang first till Std 2. KL till form 5. Kajang till end of uni. PJ & KL for work. Now settled in PJ. Just a circle and all places are within a driving range of not more than 2 hours…:D thanks Sara this article helps me.
